Hello everybody!
I hope you are ready for a classic sweet that is found in every single bakery in France! Chouquettes are these delicious little puffs sprinkled with coarse sugar, simple but so delicious and very addictive! Because they are so light and not very sweet, they are considered the perfect treat or snack when on a diet. It may seem weird to eat sweets on a diet but us French LOVE our sweets so we always find ways to have some, even when trying to loose a few pounds.
There is nothing not to like about chouquettes as they are very easy and quick to make! I love how fluffy and light they are and I can assure you that I eat them very fast. As a kid they were always my favorites and I remember getting them everytime I would go to a bakery. To me they remind me of my childhood and it’s like taking a stroll down on memory lane at every bite. They will also make a great snack or treat to accompany your tea or coffee.
Let’s start baking!
Ingredients:
- 125 ml /1/2 cup water
- 125 ml / 1/2 cup milk
- 4 eggs
- 150 g / 1 cup flour
- 100 g / 7 tbsp butter
- 10 g / 2 to 3 tbsp sugar
- A pinch of salt
- Coarse pearl sugar
- 2 egg yolks
Preparation:
1-Preheat the oven at 390 F. In a pot, boil the water, milk, sugar, butter and the pinch of salt. Once it starts boiling, take the pot out of the heat and add in the flour. Mix well until there are no clumps left.
2- Put back on the heat, on medium heat, and cook the dough/mixture for a couple minutes until it is non sticky and it comes together into a ball. Take off the heat and place the dough in a mixing bowl.
3- In a bowl, beat the eggs and strain them so they are perfectly smooth. Add into the mixing bowl and mix well until smooth. The dough will be sticky so don’t worry it is normal.
4- Add the dough in a piping bag and pipe small portions on a baking sheet. Chouquettes are normally small (about a bite size) but you can make them bigger if you prefer. Brush the top with egg yolk and sprinkle some coarse pearl sugar. Bake for 15 to 20 min. Don’t open the door in between as the puffs will deflate. Let them cool down and enjoy!
Chouquettes are so easy to make and will be the perfect light and sweet treat you need. But be carefully because it is very easy to eat them all very fast!
