I’m so happy that fall season is completely here now, especially since it’s my favorite season! I love the colors but mostly the wonderful ingredients that we get at that time such as butternut, apples, pears, nuts, chestnuts, etc. I really wanted to create a quick but flavorful fall tart. I decided to use store bought puff pastry since it’s a no brainer and I love how light and buttery it is. For this tart, I was really inspired by the traditional almond pear tart that we make in France. It’s always been one of my favorites and I loved the simplicity and flavors of this tart. I recreated a similar version but using a little Canadian touch.
First of all, I replaced the almonds by pecans which in my opinion are so much more flavorful and bring a nuttier flavor to the tart. And second, I could’t help but use some maple syrup and sugar as it sweetens the tart but also gives it a unique flavor. In addition to this, I also wanted to give a bit more flavor to the pears by soaking them in brandy. I really love the result as I got a light tart with a nutty, slightly salted and sweet flavor. I think it makes a great seasonal treat and it’s also perfect for a quick but delicious dessert at any dinner party.
Let’s start baking!
- 50 ml brandy
- 2- 3 pears
- 1 puff pastry sheet
- 100 g ground pecans
- 1 egg
- 50 ml heavy cream
- 50 ml maple syrup
- 3 tsp maple sugar
1- Peel the pears, remove the seeds and cut them in thin slices. Place them in a bowl and cover with the brandy. Mix well, cover with surround wrap and let it rest for about an hour.
2- Preheat the oven at 355 F. Place the puff pastry sheet over the tart pan and press it down as well as around the edges. Cut the pieces of pastry that are going over the edges.
3- Add the grounded pecans at the bottom and cover with the slices of pears. Place the slices all around until you reach the center of the tart.
4- Mix the egg, cream and maple syrup until homogeneous and pour on top of the tart. The mixture will spread evenly in between the pear slices. Cover with some maple sugar and bake for 25-30 min. Let it cool down and enjoy!
This tart is so easy to make and has a lot of flavor! This is the perfect tart for the season and great for a quick treat to share with friends or to enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee.
