Creusois Cake

You know how much I love cakes and sweets and there is nothing better than a super easy but delicious recipe for those cravings! This hazelnut cake, also called “Gâteau Creusois” is a specialty from la Creuse in the Limousin region in south-central France.

This recipe actually dates back to the 15th century and was found in a monastery from the region in 1969. This is a very simple recipe as it only contains hazelnuts, flour, butter, sugar and egg whites.

I always loved this cake as I’m a big fan of hazelnuts and even though the flavor and texture are very simple and basic, I think it’s an amazing cake! I really like having it with coffee or tea and it’s also a great advantage that it’s so quick to make. If you never tried this French specialty then it’s the perfect time to try!

Ingredients:

Preparation:

1- Preheat the oven at 355 F. Melt the butter at low heat in a saucepan. In the mean time, add the ground hazelnuts, sugar and flour in a mixing bowl and mix well until homogeneous.

2- Pour the melted butter in the mixing bowl and mix well. Then add the egg whites and mix again until homogeneous.

3- Pour the preparation in a buttered cake pan and bake for about 30 min. Let it cool down and enjoy!

This cake recipe is so simple yet delicious! This is a great recipe for a quick treat or for an easy dessert recipe. It’s even better served with custard sauce!
